Political factions within the workplace are a phenomenon that is observed strongly in large companies. The technology sector brings together a large proportion of politically engaged individuals, creating within these companies a mixture of polarization among colleagues. Causes for conflict range from issues related to Democrats and Republicans rather than matters of real substance for personal life. It is a fact that collegial hostility tends toward cult like limits, significantly affecting cooperation within the corporation.
For those higher in the hierarchy who choose not to get involved, the problem is also connected to the past, when they themselves were in smaller positions of responsibility. They have probably accepted that this is a difficult to resolve political situation among colleagues. But is it really so? This does not matter much, because the tactic of equal distance has already been decided, and whatever opportunity may exist is considered not relevant.
The retention of the same problematic individuals in the life of the business discourages new people from becoming members of work activities, with whatever cost this entails for the future difficulty of finding qualified individuals in the sector and adopting innovations that older employees ignore and they aren't willing to learn. The more old habits of political friction become entangled with work, the more the job sector will appear strange and difficult to measure.
The overall result of the above leads to the arbitrary readjustment of professional relationships according to circumstances. Non hierarchical zones are created within the company by employees who are not willing to cooperate harmoniously with everyone. This would have some value if the opposition concerned something that wasn't directed at another person’s viewpoint. It is an inalienable right of people to have an opinion and the courage of their views. Freedom of expression should not be suppressed anywhere in a Western society.
This entire opportunistic conflict also brings a gradual weakening of reflexes. From the side of management, which has become accustomed to tolerating internal rivalry and malice, believing that it hides the problem. It may move out of the field of vision of shareholders and top executives, but the average employee experiences it daily and will continue to do so until it is resolved.
On the other hand, human reflexes are also reduced in unhealthy intervention at an individual level. The employee sooner or later will understand whether it is worth insisting on coming to a place of war just to earn a living. One day the demands will rise and remain there.
I await with curiosity to see the prevailing condition when this cycle is completed. For now, an informal corporate language is applied among employees like Byzantine diplomacy. Things are very confused, revealing our worst selves. These people are an example to be avoided. Politics has no place in the business world.
