The government of Donald Trump will be judged tonight using a framework appropriate for both subsequent and previous administrations, so that we may take into account not the general political climate, but the values that make a presidency good or bad.
The staff of each administration defines the list of issues that will occupy the presidential term for four years. Trump’s first administration was guided by diplomatic engagement with various problems, with central figures such as Mike Pompeo, Mike Pence, John Bolton and Steven Mnuchin. On the other hand, in Trump’s second term we observe intense activity around the prospect of localized military interventions instead of classical American diplomacy. The only party with a direct interest in the military is the Department of War.
Therefore, the expected escalation by the United States in response to the problems it faces internally and outside of U.S. soil is considered a failure to impose long-standing positions through peaceful means. The positions of the United States on the global stage are clear, but they should first find receptive ears rather than rely on the dropping of bombs. Undoubtedly, the U.S. military is the most advanced force in existence by many measures. Its decisive intervention in armed conflicts with the aim of ending hostilities and enforcing compliance demonstrates this fact.
Both Trump administrations failed resoundingly in the field of foreign policy. If they had succeeded, there would be no inclination toward trade wars and military conflicts.
Although the social impact domestically is positive, influencing other societies that look to the American one as a model to emulate. To a certain extent, politics returned to its much earlier state, where proposals are grounded in logic. Otherwise, dialogue cannot exist. Democracy in all affluent countries found itself caught between ideology and demagoguery.
These two concepts fed each other like a conjoined entity for many years and Trump managed to put a stop to this. This constitutes a significant victory for many years to come.
If someone examines Trump, one will find an individual with extensive publicity and a concealed private life, irrational outbursts and very rational proposals, equal parts mistakes and achievements. This correlation of characteristics observed by citizens is noteworthy. Democratic dialogue was strengthened, as this intensified criticism of his character and his actions, both positive and negative. From this perspective, Trump’s term in office benefited America at its core.
America has been the most powerful country and the largest economy on the planet since World War II. Naturally, it attracts the attention of the entire world when it comes to internal changes that may affect foreign policy and U.S. relations with other countries. Global attention will also focus on U.S. presidents for potential scandals and criminal omissions. Being first also brings with it additional scrutiny from the outside world.
This is something that will require further analysis, as it is unfair.
